Summer in the City

Even when the Giants don’t win (although it’s obviously much more fun when they do win), it’s still awfully nice to spend a summer afternoon at the ballpark.

Opening Day 2010

So far in this still-brand-new baseball season, I’ve attended two games. Both were Giants victories, which is a very good thing. Both were highly entertaining, which is, again, a very good thing. Both were also incredibly long marathon sessions at the ballpark, one being the Giants’ 13-inning home opener and the other being the Giants’ victory over the Braves on Sunday which came after a four hour, nine minute rain delay. I’ll have photos from the Sunday game up later, but for now, here are some shots I took on Friday for the home opener. Unlike last year (and unlike on Sunday), the weather was perfect. Having the Giants enter as a team from center field was awesome. Having Jerry Rice throw the first pitch to Steve Young was incredibly cool. And seeing the Giants come back to win in the 13th inning was just icing on the cake. At least this 2010 Giants team looks like they’ll be quite entertaining to watch this summer.

Opening Day

I took this photo last year on opening day. It’s probably one of my favorite photos of the zillions I took last year. By the time the Giants finished the game (and won!), looking at the gorgeous blue skies, you never would have guessed that it had been raining like crazy just a few hours before. It was my first opening day, and it was so incredibly awesome that as soon as I had the chance to buy tickets for this season, the first thing I did was snap up a pair for opening day. The Giants open on the road this year (in Houston in about an hour, and I’m VERY EXCITED), but come Friday when they head back home to AT&T Park, I’ll be there for all of the pomp and circumstance.

I can’t wait.

Baseball, it’s good to have you back.

Fan Fest 2010

Meant to get these photos up sooner, but better late than never, right? Fan Fest was a fun time, as always, and the weather even cooperated long enough for the sun to come out for a bit. Now that pitchers and catchers have reported to spring training, I really can’t wait for the regular season to start. Is it April yet?

Good News

Super pleased to hear that Tim Lincecum and the Giants came to an agreement on a two-year deal today. I’m also super happy that pitchers and catchers report next week. Finally!

‘Twas the Night Before

Tomorrow is the Giants’ annual Fanfest event at AT&T Park, also known as the day I go back to the ballpark for the first time since October and see all of the players and eat my first hot dog of the year and start to feel really, really excited about the upcoming season. I think this will be the fifth Fanfest I’ve attended, and even though they seem to get more and more crowded every year, I still enjoy the event. There’s just something really nice about being back at the ballpark again, even if the field is all ripped up and covered with mud from the motocross event last weekend. It’s a nice way to kick off the season, or I suppose kick off the anticipation for the new season.

I dug up some of the photos I took at last year’s Fanfest, where despite a questionable forecast, we were blessed with a break in the clouds and blue skies. The forecast for tomorrow includes periods of rain. I’m hoping we get lucky again. Rain or shine, I’m looking forward to being at the ballpark again. Chances are very, very good that no matter what the weather is like, I’ll have some photos to share when I get back.

(And okay, this post also gave me an excuse to try out my new blog’s lightbox and gallery features. I love new toys.)

I bought my tickets to the Giants’ home opener in April today. I honestly can’t wait to get back to the ballpark and watch some baseball again. I’m looking forward to the new season so much that I’m even toying with the idea of posting a new baseball photo here every day until the season starts. It would be one way to count down until April 5th while making use of my brand new blog. A tempting idea.

In the meantime, here is Pablo Sandoval, who is awesome.
